Repair that starts by saving the tooth, not reducing it.

When a tooth decays, an old filling fails, or a fracture sets in, a lot of dentistry reaches for the most aggressive fix. We start from the opposite instinct: keep as much healthy, natural tooth as possible, and rebuild only what has actually been lost.

Dr Tariq Bashir leads restorative cases from first assessment to final fit, working alongside a technical team you'll come to know. Every crown, bridge and restoration is planned from high-resolution digital scans, so the fit at the margins is precise, which is what keeps decay from creeping back underneath and helps the tooth last.

FAME is built for the restorative work others find difficult: heavily worn bites, failing old metalwork, and teeth that have been rebuilt before and broken down again. If that's where you are, this is a good place to start.

Restorative Dental Specialist consultation, Tooth Restoration, FAME Dentistry, Glasgow

What to expect, step by step.

From first assessment to the finished restoration, every stage is planned around keeping the tooth healthy and the bite comfortable.

01.

Assessment & diagnosis

A full look at the tooth and the way your whole bite works, using digital scans, X-rays and nerve-health checks. We assess the individual tooth and the bigger picture before setting out the options.

02.

Minimal preparation & digital scan

Gentle removal of decay or failing old material under local anaesthetic, then a precise 3D scan of the tooth, so no messy impression trays.

03.

Temporary protection

Where needed, a hand-made temporary crown or bridge protects the prepared tooth and keeps the gum and bite in shape, so you can eat normally while your final restoration is made.

04.

Fitting & bite checks

Your final ceramic is tried in for fit, contact and colour, then bonded in place and adjusted so your bite feels natural and even. Made to be comfortable, and to last.

Matched to how much of the tooth is left.

Not every damaged tooth needs a crown. The right treatment depends on how much sound structure remains, and our aim is always to protect what's healthy while restoring full, comfortable function.

01.

Composite Fillings & Inlays/Onlays

Tooth-coloured fillings, or lab-made ceramic pieces fitted precisely over the damaged part of the tooth. Both keep far more of your natural tooth than a full crown.

Best for: mild to moderate decay, replacing old metal fillings, or a single broken cusp.

02.

Dental Crowns

A full ceramic cap that encases a badly broken, heavily filled or root-treated tooth and protects it against fracture under the force of everyday chewing.

Best for: major structural loss, decay under a large old filling, or reinforcing a tooth after root canal treatment.

03.

Dental Bridges

Fixed ceramic teeth anchored to the sound teeth on either side of a gap, restoring the bite and stopping neighbouring teeth from drifting.

Best for: replacing one or more missing teeth where an implant isn't the chosen route. (Where implants are an option, see the Implants page.)

04.

Root Canal Treatment

Careful cleaning and sealing of an infected tooth from the inside, done under magnification. It saves the natural tooth and its root, avoiding an extraction and the bone loss that follows one.

Best for: deep decay that has reached the nerve, an abscess, or persistent localised pain.

Why patients choose FAME for restorative work.

Most restorative patients at FAME arrive after a history of treatment that didn't hold. The pattern is consistent: treatment without diagnosis. Dr Bashir's approach is different, and the outcomes are too.

Diagnosis-led planning: every treatment plan starts with understanding the cause, not selecting a procedure.
Occlusal analysis as standard: bite is assessed before any restoration is placed, not after it fails.
Complex cases accepted: full mouth rehabilitation, multiple failed restorations, long-term wear cases.
Material quality: ceramic and composite materials selected for longevity, not cost margin.
Integrated with implant planning: restorative and implant work coordinated between Dr Bashir and Dr Ferhan Ahmed where needed.

What patients ask before going ahead.

How do I know if I need a filling, an onlay, or a full crown?
It comes down to how much healthy tooth is left. When most of the tooth is sound, a filling or a ceramic onlay is usually enough and keeps more of your own tooth. When the tooth is badly broken down, a crown gives it full protection all the way round. We'll show you where your tooth sits and explain why.
Are ceramic crowns and bridges as strong as natural teeth?
For everyday chewing, the modern ceramics we use, lithium disilicate and zirconia, are strong and hard-wearing when they're chosen and fitted well. The fit matters as much as the material, which is why we plan every one digitally.
Will it hurt?
No. Restorative treatment is done under local anaesthetic so you're comfortable throughout, and for anyone who finds dental treatment stressful, IV sedation is available.
How long do these restorations last?
Well-fitted crowns, bridges and indirect restorations commonly last 15 to 20 years or more, provided they're looked after with good day-to-day care and regular check-ups. Nothing is permanent, but the aim is always longevity.
What happens at the first consultation?
A thorough assessment with Dr Tariq Bashir, which means a review of any existing work, digital imaging, and a clear explanation of the options open to you, with itemised pricing and no pressure to proceed on the day.
Can old metal fillings be replaced?
Yes. Worn or failing metal fillings can be replaced with tooth-coloured composite or ceramic restorations, using careful isolation to protect the surrounding tooth and gum during removal.
How much does it cost, and can it be spread out?
Larger restorative work can often be planned in phases, and we'll talk you through the costs, clearly itemised, at your consultation, so there are no surprises.
