Implants  ·  Patient Guide
By Dr Ferhan Ahmed

The most important decision in implant treatment isn't clinical. It's who you trust.

A free guide for anyone considering dental implants: the seven mistakes that cost patients most, and the questions that reveal whether a practice you're considering is the right one.

Why This Guide

Get this decision right, and almost everything else follows.

I want to start with something you may not expect a dentist to say: the most important decision you'll make in the whole implant process has nothing to do with the procedure itself. It's the decision about who you trust to carry it out. Get it right, and the rest tends to follow. Get it wrong, and the cost (financial, physical and emotional) can be significant and long-lasting.

Over the years, many of my patients came to me after a difficult experience elsewhere. Some had lost money, some had lost time, a few had lost both and were starting over. What struck me was that their mistakes were rarely about dentistry. They were about due diligence. There were signals they'd missed, and the questions they didn't think to ask until, with hindsight, it was too late.

So I wrote down the seven mistakes I see people making most often along with the specific questions you should be asking to ensure you don't make them too.

What's Inside

Seven mistakes. Seven questions to avoid them.

The guide identifies each mistake and gives you the one question to ask a practice to ensure you don't get caught out.

01

Judging a practice by its own marketing.

Every practice has a polished website and five-star reviews now, which is exactly why they tell you so little. One question cuts straight through the polish, and most practices won't be expecting it.

02

Being seduced by an offer that seems too good to be true.

Headline prices, countdown timers, “teeth in a day.” Each one is doing a job, and it isn't the job you think. What these offers usually leave out, and how to test any price properly.

03

Dismissing the small things at your first visit.

How a practice behaves when it thinks nothing counts tells you how it will behave when everything does. What to notice before you ever sit in the chair.

04

Combining implant surgery with a holiday abroad.

On paper, treatment abroad can look like a straightforward saving. For implants in particular, the real comparison is harder to see, and it rarely appears on the quote. Three questions to decide whether it's genuinely worth it for you.

05

Assuming one implant dentist is much like another.

The gap in ability between implant dentists is far wider than most patients realise, and a certificate on the wall won't tell you where someone sits. Three questions that separate genuine experience from time served.

06

Not asking what happens after your treatment.

Most patients ask about before and during. Very few ask about after, yet that's where a practice's character really shows. The question that tells you in advance what happens once the invoice is paid.

07

Deciding before you're ready, or being pressured to.

Some pressure is obvious. The more effective kind rarely feels like pressure at all. The signals to walk away from, and the standard any practice worth choosing will offer you without being asked.
